Charitable Remainder and Charitable Lead Trusts

Charitable Remainder Trusts can be tailored to meet your needs. In a charitable remainder trust, income is paid to one or more parties at the end of the donor life while the principal and undistributed interest can be paid to another party or charity. There are two basic kinds of charitable remainder trusts:

-In unitrusts, the assets of the trust are revalued annually and dollar amounts distributed are determined by a pre-established percentage rate.

-Annuities distribute fixed dollar amounts based on the market value of the trust at the time and income portions do not change.

Charitable Lead Trusts are trusts that will give donations to the Mission for a set number of years and then the remainder of the trust will pass on to heirs. One of the benefits of a Charitable Lead Trust is that any appreciation of the assets in the trust which take place while payments are being made to the Mission are not subjected to additional taxes. This type of trust can greatly reduce the costs of passing on assets to your loved ones.
