A Day of Thanks for a Year of Blessings

On Sunday November 20, 2011, dozens of volunteers, Mission staff, and local leaders gathered to celebrate our 19th annual Day of Thanks by providing hundreds of complete Thanksgiving dinners to families in need. Dozens of our food pantry recipients and families of our residents brought Thanksgiving baskets filled with turkeys and all the trimmings home to their own dinner tables.

From R to L: Governor Patrick, Senator Chang-Diaz, Commissioner Spencer and Hugh Kiley serving meals to Boston's hungriest folks.

This year, the Mission welcomed Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick to our celebration, as well as Massachusetts State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, Massachusetts Department of Corrections Chair Luis Spencer, and Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail General Manager Hugh Kiley.

We are so grateful for the churches, businesses, schools, and individuals who contribute valuable gifts of time, food, and financial resources on this special day and throughout the year.  A special thanks for generous food donations go out to Park Street School, the Capitol Grille, Shaw's in Porter Square, Mt. Vernon Restaurant, Patsy's Pastry Shop, Red Bones, and many others. Also thanks to B.G. Hodges and the crew from the Brewster Academy for their volunteer help, as well as many others.

Our food needs continue through the holidays and beyond. For more information about donating your time or food items to the Mission, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators at 617-338-9000 x1230. We know that when you give of yourself, you'll receive back even more. Thank you for caring!
