NACE and Ernie Boch, Jr. Support Feeding Our Neighbors

When Ernie Boch Jr. hosted his annual end-of-summer party on the evening before Hurricane Irene arrived in New England, even fewer invitees arrived than expected. That prompted a collaboration between several folks to donate the party's unused food to the Boston Rescue Mission. The Mission received dozens of pounds of high quality foods, including ribeye steak, lobster tails, pasta, salad greens, couscous salad and much more...enough to feed over 200 meals to Mission residents and guests!
The idea to donate unused food from the Boch party came from Tasha Bracken of SD Events. As a member of the New England Chapter of theNational Association of Catering Executives (NACE), SD Events educates caterers and venues about how they can help with the NACE "Feeding Our Neighbors" initiative.
Special thanks go to:

Boston Hair Design and Mission Marathon Team Raise Funds and Awareness for Haiti 2 Years Running
For 2 years in a row, Boston Hair Design owner Wildie Ceccherini has teamed up with Mission President and CEO John Samaan and the Mission Marathon team to bring hope to a small town in southwest Haiti. Last year over $10,000 was raised among Marathon participants to build 4 modern wells in the tiny town of L'Asile, in rural, southwest Haiti. Youngest Mission Team Member in a Run to Remember
Andrew Slack, 18, of Waterville, Maine completed his first Boston Marathon this year. In the process, he raised over $5,300 to help support poor children in Haiti and desperate women and men in greater Boston. While committed to these causes, Andrew did have an ulterior motive. He lost his older brother, SPC Wade A. Slack, to fighting in Afghanistan a year ago. Andrew's hometown paper chronicled his journey through training up to the race. We celebrate Andrew's dedication to himself, his brother, and all those in need of help.
NHL and TD Garden Feed the Hungry After Every Event
For 41 home games each year, the Boston Bruins fill the TD Garden with hungry fans. This year, the Bruins and the NHL are partnering with local human service agencies to distribute all their unsold prepared food to those who are less fortunate. The idea came from Rock and Wrap it Up!, a New York think tank who is helping institutions to battle poverty by donating unwanted assets to those in need.
After finalizing details for the Bruins games, the donation policy was graciously extended to all TD Garden events, including Boston Celtics games, concerts--any time concessions are sold. We're very thankful for the blessings we receive!
Thanks also to David Filipov at the Boston Globe for his coverage of this story.
