Meal Programs

Over the past several years, the Boston Rescue Mission has served over 165,000 meals each year. This includes the meals served at the food pantry, residential meals, and the three o'clock community meal. The Mission serves meals at six mealtimes on weekdays. If you would like to be a volunteer for the meal program, please contact our volunteer coordinator by filling out our volunteer application.

The food pantry program provided over 27,000 meals last year to individuals and families in the city of Boston. Program participants must present a picture I.D., rent receipt, utility bill, and be a resident of the city of Boston to be eligible for the food pantry program. Lack of affordable housing in the city of Boston has significantly increased the demand for the food pantry program over the last several years. Running the food pantry is a volunteer position.

Residential Meals
Residents in our recovery programs are served three meals per day.  All meals have available shifts for those who would like to volunteer serving in the kitchen. Some of the residential clients participate in the preparing and serving of the meals as a way to contribute to their mandatory house hours.

The Three O'clock meal is open to anyone who is hungry. Typically, between fifty to one hundred people come to the Mission to enjoy this afternoon meal. This is a popular meal for our Corporate Partners, who enjoy gathering a few employees to serve a meal once per month or so. It is also a popular meal for those wishing to reach out to a homeless person and perhaps to establish a personal relationship.

Earning keep
Resident program members offset their free room and board by working in the kitchen and doing maintenance jobs in the Mission.
