Each Sunday, we have a group of 4-10 volunteers come to the Boston Rescue Mission to provide and serve a meal to the homeless community of Boston.
People to whom the meal is served:
4.30 PM - Homeless residents who are living at the Kingstom House and participating in our substance abuse recovery programs.
5:00 PM - People from the surrounding streets who are homeless and hungry.
Protocol: Please prepare food to feed 150 people either at your own facilities or bring in your own food to cook here using the BRM kitchen.
Arrive at the Mission early enough to prepare the food for the meal, whether it is heating the food already prepared or actually cooking it. Then arrive one half hour earlier than you think you should.
Serve the meal promptly at 4.30 PM.
Serve the meal promptly at 5.00 PM (both meals should be served PROMPTLY; a back-up in the serving of the meals causes a delay in opening up the shelter at night to the homeless)
Stay for clean-up (should last until 7.00 PM)
*Groups usually don't give themselves enough time to prepare, and the meals get backed up. If the meals get backed up, then the other events of the day are jammed up and the homeless waiting for our overflow shelter at night stay out later than they should!
If for some reason your group cannot make it, please have a back-up plan. we don't have staff or resources to prepare this meal, so if you cannot make it and have no back-up plan, kindly give us at least one week's notice so that we can arrange for alternate options. Thanks!
