A Smile Goes a Long Way

Kim is no stranger to volunteering. For 15 years, she volunteered in Boston helping young people to break the cycle of incarceration and poverty as part of Americorps, (the domestic Peace Corps). Like the population they serve, Americorps members receive a stipend that places them officially within the poverty level. For many years she served at organizations like ROCA Inc., the Boston Living Center, and helping at food pantries.

She also picked up skills crocheting, and serving in kitchens. Kim came to us in the summer and began volunteering in the mornings alongside her hair styling work in the evenings. Her advice for good volunteering? Simple. A smile and other simple acknowledgments go a long way. A lot of smiles come back to you as a result. Thanks Kim for all your help!
