The Mission Gave Me a Second Chance

Hi, I’m Matty. In high school, I was known as a star football player with a bright future. But around the time I turned 18, my life began to change. I started drinking heavily and throwing keg parties in the state woods. Because I looked older, I used a fake ID to buy kegs for those parties. Eventually, I was caught driving drunk, and my license was revoked. That moment marked the beginning of a downward spiral.
What started as a bad choice quickly turned into an addiction that affected every part of my life. My drug use led to serious medical problems and eventually landed me in a locked facility. When I was released, I needed to turn my life around, so I came to the Mission looking for real change. At first, I did well in the program. I was close to graduating, but I left early because I believed I had found stable housing. Sadly, I ended up living in a storage facility. It was a dangerous and desperate decision, and it led to me being arrested and evicted.
That’s when I called John and asked if I could return. He welcomed me back and gave me a second chance. The Mission helped me realize that people from all backgrounds can end up in the same place for similar reasons.
